New Release Spotlight! Nantucket Days and Nights in Girls of Summer by Nancy Thayer

New Release Spotlight Girls of Summer

One life-changing summer on Nantucket brings about exhilarating revelations for a single mother and her two grown children in this sensational novel from New York Times bestselling author Nancy Thayer.

Lisa Hawley is perfectly satisfied living on her own. Having fully recovered from a brutal divorce nearly two decades earlier, she has successfully raised her kids, Juliet and Theo, seeing them off to college and beyond. As the owner of a popular boutique on Nantucket, she’s built a fulfilling life for herself on the island where she grew up. With her beloved house in desperate need of repair, Lisa calls on Mack Whitney, a friendly—and very handsome—local contractor and fellow single parent, to do the work. The two begin to grow close, and Lisa is stunned to realize that she might be willing to open up again after all . . . despite the fact that Mack is ten years her junior.

Juliet and Theo worry that Mack will only break their mother’s heart—and they can’t bear to see her hurt again. Both stuck in ruts of their own, they each hope that a summer on Nantucket will provide them with the clarity they’ve been searching for. When handsome entrepreneur Ryder Hastings moves to the island to expand his environmental nonprofit, Juliet, an MIT-educated web designer, feels an immediate attraction, one her rocky love life history pushes her to deny at first. Meanwhile, free spirit Theo finds his California bliss comes to a brutal halt when a surfing injury forces him back to the East Coast. Upon his return, he has eyes only for Mack’s daughter, Beth, to whom he is bound by an unspeakable tragedy from high school. Can they overcome their past?

As the season unfolds, a storm threatens to shatter the peace of the golden island, forcing Lisa, Juliet, and Theo to decide whether their summer romances are destined for something more profound. Nancy Thayer dazzles again in this delightful tale of family, a reminder that sometimes, finding our way back home can bring us unexpected gifts.

About the Author

Nancy ThayerI grew up in Kansas, surrounded by prairie, but thirty-five years ago I came to Nantucket to visit a friend who introduced me to the love of my life. Charley and I have now lived on Nantucket for 33 years–year-round, as we say, so I have a special feeling for this island and for the people who come here. I love the island most in the winter when the waves crash dramatically on the shore.

I have a bachelor’s and master’s degree in English literature from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, and I still go to KC often to visit my darling baby sister, who inspires many of the characters in my book. Yes, she is blond, and yes, she is 9 years younger than I am. I still love her.

For a few years, I taught freshman English in several states, and had short stories published in literary reviews. My first novel, Stepping, was published by Doubleday in 1980, and started me off on the career I’ve always wanted. I was a Fellow at the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference in 1980 and in 2015, I received the RT Career Achievement Award.

I’ve published 30 novels–all available on Amazon–including Secrets in Summer, The Island House, The Guest Cottage, Nantucket Sisters, and Island Girls. A Nantucket Wedding was my 30th. The upcoming Surfside Sisters will be out July, 2019! Champagne for everyone!

When I’m not writing novels–all 30 are available on Amazon–I’m walking the beach with my husband or entertaining our 4 grandchildren & their parents & our friends. All my novels are about family and friendships, which I believe are the foundation of a happy, if complicated, life.

New Release Spotlight! Summer Reading Begins with Mary Alice Monroe’s On Ocean Boulevard

New Release Spotlight On Ocean Boulevard

The New York Times bestselling author of The Summer Guests returns at long last to her beloved Beach House series in this breathtaking novel about one family’s summer of forging new beginnings against the enduring beauty and resilience of the natural world.

It’s been sixteen years since Caretta “Cara” Rutledge has returned home to the beautiful shores of Charleston, South Carolina. Over those years, she has weathered the tides of deaths and births, struggles and joys. And now, as Cara prepares for her second wedding, her life is about to change yet again.

Meanwhile, the rest of the storied Rutledge family is also in flux. Cara’s niece Linnea returns to Sullivan’s Island to begin a new career and an unexpected relationship. Linnea’s parents, having survived bankruptcy, pin their hopes and futures on the construction of a new home on Ocean Boulevard. But as excitement over the house and wedding builds, a devastating illness strikes the family and brings plans to a screeching halt. It is under these trying circumstances that the Rutledge family must come together yet again to discover the enduring strength in love, tradition, and legacy from mother to daughter to granddaughter.

Like the sea turtles that come ashore annually on these windswept islands, three generations of the Rutledge family experience a season of return, rebirth, and growth. “Authentic, generous, and heartfelt” (New York Times bestselling author Mary Kay Andrews), On Ocean Boulevard is Mary Alice Monroe at her very best.

Some Thoughts on Mother’s Day Plus a Book Sale & Giveaway

Mother Day's Meme 2020

This weekend is Mother’s Day, not my favorite holiday. In the past I always felt torn on this day because I lived far from my mom and could not always get away to spend the day with her. Now, my mom is gone and we will never share another Mother’s Day, although she’s in my heart. Ironically, my daughter recently moved across the country with her new husband so I will not see her on Mother’s Day either, and that makes me sad. Which leads me to my next quote: Motherhood is the greatest thing and the hardest thing. Ricki Lake got that right. Raising children is not easy, yet it’s full of joy, and letting them go is difficult. Many people have told me I’ve done a good job as a mother to have raised a child with sturdy wings, capable of living her own life. We Facetime often, share recipes, gossip, and watch our favorite TV shows together, tethered by iPhones. But it’s not the same. If you’re a mother I’m sure you understand. My plans to visit her are on hold because of the virus, but as soon as it feels safe to travel I’ll be on my way and we’ll have a week’s worth of Mother’s Days. I wish you a happy Mother’s Day!

My Book Sale & Giveaway

If you’ve read any of my books you might have surmised that strong mothers are at the heart of my stories. Resilient, independent women like my mom, who lost her husband at age 48 and raised four children on her own at a time when few women were single mothers. We endured many difficult times but Mom held us together, even at her own expense. As a tribute to Mom and all the mothers out there struggling to care for their families during these troubling times, I’m offering all of my stories with strong mothers at their core for free or on sale. This includes Sara in Blue Hydrangeas, who endured the loss of her 16-year old daughter; Devon in Swim Season, who served our nation after 911 as an Army nurse caring for our soldiers; Ino, the loving Italian mother in Ino’s Love who shares her gifts with a mother facing challenges raising her own children; and the she-bear of a mother Meg in the Daisy Hunter stories, rearing a large brood with not enough money and lots of love. You can pick up Blue Hydrangeas on a Kindle Countdown Deal at .99 starting May 9; Swim Season, also a Countdown Deal at .99 starting May 9, and the three short stories Ino’s Love, Collection, and Birthday Party for free on Book Funnel. Act now! These deals won’t last for long. Please share with your friends and family.

Happy Mother's Day

New Release Spotlight A Captains Bride

Grumpy Miss Applewaite looks like a fun challenge.
Silly Mr. Hathaway is nothing but a flirt.

Phoebe Applewaite refuses to ransom herself to escape spinsterhood or to fund the millinery shop of her dreams. When foppish Mr. Hathaway tries to cajole her into a dance on Twelfth Night, she’s determined to ignore the ridiculous man even if he is one of Charleston’s most eligible bachelors.

James Hathaway would rather be a sea captain than an heir. His parents don’t approve, so he spends most days at the card tables. When his father threatens to cut him off, James agrees to pursue someone “suitable” in exchange for a position aboard a company ship. The single and ever-serious Miss Applewaite seems harmless enough.

Phoebe and James concede to a polite friendship but soon discover they can work together exporting Phoebe’s goods with the Hathaway shipping company. It will take a house party on an island plantation before either is certain if their hearts hunger for more than success and adventure.

Can a wealthy heir find love with a woman of ambition, or will old habits ruin a rake’s chances and send Phoebe Applewaite running for the Carolina low country instead of becoming a captain’s bride?
